THE PROCESS
Best Planting Times
Tree spading can be done any time of year. However, it is best to transplant certain species during the cooler months of spring and fall. Usually detail plans and tree maintenance are the focus of the winter and mid-summer months, with planting in the spring and fall. But we can accommodate any situation with a little ingenuity.
In general, deciduous trees do best if they're moved in the spring and fall. Evergreens should be moved before their new growth begins in the late spring or after new growth hardens in late summer. We work with our customers to figure out the best time that their trees should be planted while considering their time schedules and ours.
The Process
Greeno Tree Spade Services has one of the only 94" tree spades in the New England area. The large tree spade gives us the opportunity to move a large solid root ball, which means less transplanting shock to the tree.
Transplanting or relocating large trees needs to be done with care and precision. We will evaluate the landscaping site and determine the best solution for your tree’s needs. All the necessary materials and equipment to gain access, transport, plant and backfill will be provided by Greeno Tree Spade Services. We also call in Dig-Safe to survey the property to ensure that the underground utilities are properly marked.
The selected trees are hand-tied and prepared for transport. The tree spade is placed in the proper location before excavation begins. The root ball is cut from the earth with our large hydraulic spades and lifted slowly from the ground. Once lifted, the tree will be prepared for relocation. If going down the road, the entire tree and root ball will be covered and protected from the elements.
Once the tree is in its new location, a deep root application of Bio-plex is provided. This is to promote woody and fibrous root growth, while helping to protect it against insects and diseases. Pruning of any dead wood and any other maintenance it may require while in our care will also be provided. For a small additional fee we will secure the large trees in place with galvanized aircraft cable, turnbuckles and ground anchors. Small trees can also be staked and wired.
